Where You Come In
We are looking for a clever mechanical engineer to work in our talented product development team. You will be involved in the entire life cycle of our products from early concepts to the finished product. Our ideal candidate must be comfortable collaborating heavily with industrial designers as well as working as the sole engineer on projects. You will be responsible for developing concepts, building physical prototypes, creating efficient 3D CAD models, and being the product expert on the engineering details.
What You'll Do
- Work with the product design team to prototype, develop, and engineer furniture for the home
- Solve engineering and design challenges to optimize for manufacturability and end-user function
- Create SolidWorks parts, assemblies, and drawings ready for manufacturing release
- Provide clear and organized communication to suppliers to help facilitate prototypes and convey product design intent
- Find suppliers and component sources for new parts
- Define quality standards in collaboration with our suppliers and work to maintain outstanding product quality
- Maintain product specifications and be an expert advisor to our customers and customer experience team
- Re-engineer improvements to existing products
This Might Describe You
- A bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field
- 3+ years experience working in product development and engineering
- A creative and aesthetic eye for mechanical problem solving
- Knowledge of materials (steel, aluminum, wood, plastic injection molding, etc.) and processes (forming, stamping, welding, die casting, powder coating, plating, painting, etc.)
- Woodworking experience and knowledge of different types of wood species is a plus
- Experience working in a shop and making physical prototypes. Our ideal candidate will take ownership over a prototype and do what it takes to make it work. We have a small prototyping area and work with local fabrication shops for creating prototypes.
- Able to think about design details down to the nuts and bolts
- Working knowledge of standard industry tolerances and can perform a basic tolerance stack-up analysis
- Bias for action and getting stuff done
- Excellent verbal and written skills
- Experience working directly with industrial designers
- Enjoy collaboration and working in a team environment
- Ability to move FAST and can deal well with ambiguity and change
